Spicy Ramen from Hong Kong
While I was in Hong Kong this summer, I was spoiled by the immense culinary selection and variety of delicious food. This particular dish was known as “Hot and Spicy Ramen”, and boy was it amazing. The menu was very interesting: it was simply a piece of paper with a bunch of ingredients that you can check off to put in the noodle soup, and each individual ingredient had its own associated price. Theoretically, you could possibly put a towering amount of food in your bowl.
Then, you had to choose a spice level from 1-7. I picked 4, and the heat was perfect. The soup is a mixture of fish sauce, chinese pickled cabbage and beef broth, and the ingredients I chose for my noodle bowl was fried fish balls, pork belly, dumplings and parsley. The ramen was silky smooth and had wonderful elasticity. I find myself craving this all the time in San Antonio, but these pictures are the closest I’ll get. Click on the pictures to enlarge them!
